Episode 36: Beauty and the Beast (1991)

chatflix one comments

A tale old as time (or at least as old as 1991), when a witch cursed a prince to become a beast because… we’re not really sure why actually.

Anyway the curse could only be broken when four grown men – Brose, Stu, Trev and Matt O’Neill – gathered to talk about this Disney classic and the difficulties in finding a fork in the castle once the curse was broken.

Episode 35: Wayne’s World

Party on Brose, Party on Tamzen.

The gang are joined in their blue AMC pacer by comedian performer Hayley Butcher as well as regular guest Stu Wilson, as they crank Bohemian Rhapsody and have a schwinging good time talking about the 1992 classic Wayne’s World, based on the SNL sketch created by Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, and with ridiculously good looking Rob Lowe and Tia Carrere, the question is “Are you worthy?”

Episode 34: Dirty Dancing

This week the Chatflix team gather and see if we swoon over Patrick Swayze. The dude was star of Roadhouse for pete’s sake! In Dirty Dancing however he tries to be even cooler (science is unsure how) as Catskills dance instructor Johnny Castle. Johnny. Castle! Even the name is tested in a laboratory to be arctic cool!

Joining him is Jennifer Grey and legendary Jerry Orbach of Law & Order fame! (Dun dun!) Disappointingly Jerry is kept out of the dirty dancing.

Brose, Tamzen, Matt and Danielle: one of these people put this film in the corner. But which one?

Episode 33: Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

Tamzen, Brose, Trev and Stu invented Postit notes. Don’t look it up on Wikipedia! It’s true! We’re not just trying to impress people we went to school with.

Luckily for you guys we took time out of spending all our Postit money to talk about Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, they look so good with blond hair and black roots its like not even funny. Joining the girls is the crush inducing Janeane Garofalo and the dancing king that is Alan Cumming.

Have a “Romy and Michele” day!

Episode 32: Alien

In 1979 Ridley Scott introduced a whole generation to soiling themselves in fright at the thought of acid drooling, eyeless, eponymous Alien. This week Brose, Jade, Danielle and Alien: Defiance artist Tristan Jones grab a spare pair of clean underwear and peak over the couch to watch and talk.

We discuss the legacy that has lasted 7 films, and how badass Sigourney Weaver is. Because she is. She’s Zuul dagnabit.

Episode 31: The Castle

We bathe in the serenity, revel in the vibe and dig a whole lot of love for this Australian comedy classic. Off the back of their late night sketch The Late Show the Working Dog team of Santo Cilauro, Rob Sitch, Jane Kennedy and Tom Gleaner created a heart warming story of a man who viewed his house as his castle and fought for it like a king of old.

As a special treat this week Brose chatted with Tiriel Mora, the Kerrigan lawyer extraordinaire Dennis Denuto, about his experience making the film and how he got one of the greatest lines in aussie cinema.

“In summing up, it’s the constitution, it’s Mabo, it’s justice, it’s law, it’s the vibe, and…no that’s it…it’s the vibe. I rest my case.”

Episode 30: The Graduate

The Chatflix team try and seduce you with the the 1967 classic the Graduate. Dustin Hoffman is a college graduate with no real aim in life… if this movie was set in 2016 he could just do a podcast! Instead he is seduced by older woman Mrs. Robinson played by Anne Bancroft while he falls for her daughter Elaine.

With Mike Nichols directing, a score by Simon and Garfunkel and a slew of academy awards we feel bad it’s taken our podcast 50 years to get here.

“Look, maybe we could do something else together. Mrs. Robinson, would you like to go to a movie?”

Episode 29: The Fly (1986)

None of us can believe it’s taken 29 episodes to get to Jeff Goldblum but nature has finally found a way! The Chatflix crew roll up a newspaper and give a good swat at David Cronenberg’s classic horror The Fly.

The Fly is a dark and disturbing warning to those who don’t wash their hands before getting in their teleportation pods. I mean it’s basic hygiene people! What would Scotty say?!

Episode 28.5: Rogueview Ep

We fly around the galaxy finding out what people thought of the latest addition to the Star Wars story.

Brose got on the Flixphone and called everyone as they left the cinema, popcorn still warm to get their thoughts.

Did it give Steele Saunders a new hope? Did Tristan Jones’ Force Awaken? Was Matt’s Caravan full of Courage? Hey not everyone of these is going to be gold…

Don’t forget to listen to Brose, Trev, Stu and Shaun discuss it more depth.

Episode 28: Rogue One

We assemble our own ragtag group of rebels, Brose, Stu, Trev and Shaun Crawford from fakeshemp.net.

It’s a Jynferno of opinions as we cover all the thrills and spills of the prequel to the original that then became a sequel followed by two more sequels then three bad prequels (which we don’t discuss) followed by a sequel which was a lot like the orginal/sequel. With all of that it’s no wonder we needed flow charts and an elite cadre of Star Wars fans to talk about Rogue One.

Also don’t forget to listen to our all star rogueview ep.
